Hello! My name is Eddie Kang, and I will be working as one of the teaching fellows starting from next Monday (7/27/09), and I cannot wait to meet all of you in person! To tell you a little bit about myself, I attend Columbia University in New York. Starting from this fall, I will be a junior, and I study Comparative Literature and Society and Linguistics.
Currently, I'm in Japan learning Japanese at a program called "Princeton in Ishikawa." Since I know Korean, I thought it was going to be easier for me to learn Japanese, but participating in this program made me realize how wrong I was. To learn another language requires a lot of work and memorization, and these aspects of studying foreign languages are, I think, less than interesting for almost everyone.Though it is true that working and memorizing are less than fun, I truly believe that it is possible to make the process entertaining, and with this spirit, I hope to spend the three weeks I have with you having as much as fun as possible while learning English!
So what do I have in mind? The project we will be working together is called "My Message to the World." Three teams of three students will be each making a mini-commercial in which you will be conveying a message that you think is both important and relevant for everyone in the world to hear. Are you excited? I hope you are because I am!
So before next Monday, I would like you to do the following:
1) Please create a personal account on Blogger.
2) Please write a short self-introduction. (by 7/22/09)
3) Please watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oumVHSj6AE8 and write how you felt after watching the video in 2~3 sentences. (by 7/24/09).
If you have any questions, please feel free to write on this blog or ask Becky who happens to be my little sister!

I hope to hear from you very soon!
Best,
Eddie
